About the event

Dr. Jennifer Abel is the Research Data Management Librarian at the University of Calgary, having joined the library in May 2023 from the Research Services Office. Prior to coming back to UCalgary in December 2021, after many years away, she was the Training Coordinator for the Portage Network, an RDM-focused initiative of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, and for the RDM team in the Digital Research Alliance of Canada. Jennifer is the co-chair of the National Training Expert Group for the Canadian RDM Network of Experts. She holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics and an MLIS from UBC, and has taught at UCalgary, UBC and MRU.

Brittany McDonald is a Senior Advisor at Calliou Group, an Indigenous-owned Consulting Firm that provides services and supports to Indigenous peoples and their governments on matters pertaining to their rights. In her current role, she supports a diverse set of projects in a number of areas in the form of research, report writing, database management, community engagement, and consultation office support. Brittany holds a B.A. in Linguistics (UManitoba) and an M.A. in Linguistics (UCalgary) and an M.A. in Public Policy (UCalgary).

Dr. Svitlana Winters was among the first graduate students to participate in the Transformative Talent Internship program, introduced by the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at the UCalgary in 2016. This led to a job offer from the boutique research consultancy where she was interning, marking the beginning of her journey in research beyond academia. Currently, Svitlana serves as a Senior Insights Manager on the Quantitative Research team at Dig Insights, a global research and technology company. In this role, she helps businesses make data-driven decisions regarding innovation, enhancing their product and service offerings, meeting consumer needs, and addressing pain points. In addition to her full-time position, Svitlana enjoys bridging the gap between the business world and academia by teaching a course on Language and Advertising at the University of Calgary.

(including some from Dr. Carroll’s work).
